GRAND HAVEN -- Point to John Potter's big catches in the first half, his amazingly long field goal and his game-ending interception as big differences. The Grand Haven senior multi-tasked to perfection. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior......gave the Buccaneer fans plenty to cheer about......Potter booted a school-record 50-yard field goal. He also kicked a 22-yarder with 12 seconds left in the first half to give Grand Haven a 10-7 lead at halftime. Potter also had an interception with 41.3 seconds left to end Grandville's final shot at victory. And during the game, he caught three of Kent Viening's passes for 47 yards.
Grand Haven Tribune 8/25/07
"the Bucs closed the half by relying on one of their most dangerous weapons — their kicker. Division 1 prospect John Potter booted a pair of 42-yard field goals, giving the Bucs a 19-7 lead heading into the break. Potter's mammoth kickoffs that often sailed through the end zone routinely wowed the overflowing crowd decked out in blue and gold."
Grand Haven Tribune 8/31/07
"Potter is a young man of few words, but his actions speak volumes, especially when his right foot is called upon, which it was quite often Thursday. He boomed all eight of his kickoffs into — our out of — the end zone, including one that bounced off the crossbar and another that went through the uprights. Potter's booming kickoffs kept the Sailors from gaining any momentum with a big kick return as they started every drive after a Buccaneer score at the 20-yard line."
